Meet Deborah
Deborah Schatten Founder of Practice Smarts
Greetings! Thank you for considering me to speak at your event.
My speaking style draws on more than 20 years of experience in the worlds of television and live events. It’s also informed by work with many celebrities, including Jay Leno, Angie Harmon and Olivia Newton-John – as well as leading creative for international events for Microsoft, Genentech and others.
Most often I speak on topics related to my Practice Smarts™ communication training program. Practice Smarts uses a unique approach to training veterinary staff that is rooted in techniques used effectively in hundreds of organizations, ranging from the United Nations to the U.S. Navy Seals, and from Procter & Gamble to Eli Lilly. The program also integrates the most recent findings in psychology—particularly as they apply to veterinary professionals—as well as evidence-based trust building and conflict resolution practices.
Having been raised by a doctor and a therapist, and working at the Humane Society throughout my youth, I have a highly tuned sense of what makes people in the medical and animal care worlds tick.
I also learned to connect with just about anybody, and think on my feet, from running self-development seminars with some of the toughest audiences you’ll ever find – teenagers, who had no choice but to show up. I can only hope these amazing young people got as much out of my teaching as I got out of rising to their challenges.
More recently, I was a marketing leader. This enabled me to hone my ability to engage teams of C-level executives, boards, and employees of all levels. It also gave me numerous opportunities to put my training and people skills to work, day after day, year after year.
I like to be ready for anything, and know success is all about the preparation. I hope to have the opportunity to discover what it is that your group or team will most benefit from, and to create a presentation that delivers it. Along the way, I’ll also look to excite and engage everyone to become more self-aware, better communicators, and more confident problem solvers.
